End-of-lease cleaning checklist for Australian renters

· 1 min read · getlocal team

Your lease likely requires you to leave the property in the same condition as at the start (fair wear and tear excepted). Grab your entry condition report and work through it.

Kitchen

  • Oven, grill, rangehood and filters degreased
  • Cupboards and drawers wiped inside and out
  • Benchtops, splashback, sink and taps
  • Dishwasher filter cleaned

Bathrooms and laundry

  • Shower screen, tiles and grout
  • Toilet, vanity, mirrors and exhaust fan
  • Laundry tub and behind the machine

Every room

  • Skirting boards, light switches, door handles
  • Windows, tracks and sills
  • Marks on walls (check what's allowed first)
  • Floors vacuumed and mopped, carpets cleaned if your lease says so

Outside

  • Rubbish removed, lawns and gardens tidy if they're your responsibility

Hiring a bond cleaner

Ask whether they offer a re-clean if the agent flags something. Get the scope in writing. Find cleaners near you and compare local price estimates.
